The University of California, Santa Barbara

Founded in 1891 as an independent university for teacher training under the name Anna Blake School, in 1909 it was acquired by the state and renamed, first as Santa Barbara State Normal School, and as of 1921 Santa Barbara State College. In 1958 it acquired its current name, renewed its educational offer and moved to a new campus, located in Goleta, 13 kilometers from Santa Bárbara and 160 northwest from Los Ángeles.

UC Santa Bárbara offers more than 200 study programs that are taught in three faculties (Creative Studies, Engineering and Science and Literature) and two professional schools (Gevirtz School of Education and the Bren School of Environmental Sciences and Management). The teaching of these programs is characterized by taking place in a multicultural environment in which teachers and students explore and learn together.

The campus houses twelve national research centers, nine of which are supported by the National Science Foundation, and six professors (in chemistry, economics and physics) are included in its teaching staff. Thanks to this intense research work, UC Santa Bárbara is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities.
