 On trial in a federal court in the United States in February 2002, Lindh accepted a plea agreement; He pleaded guilty to two counts and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. It was announced in April 2019 that he would be placed on probation on May 23, 2019, for a period of three years of probation.

After serving 17 years of his sentence, Lindh will leave this Thursday the federal prison Terre Haute, in Indiana.
